Me and Anshu planned to have a child when we were approaching our second anniversary. Just the day after our 2nd anniversary, Anshu did a test early in the morning to confirmed that she is pregnant. I still remember that day so clearly and our anticipation of the test the night before when we went to 360 degrees restaurant on CN Tower to celebrate out anniversary

So, now we knew that we will have a baby sometime in July of 2008. We did some research and the doctor as well gave us a date of July 23rd. So you were right on time.. 1 day earlier.

Somewhere around 2nd or 3rd month of pregnancy, Anshu's pregnancy symptoms stopped and we were really worried. In fact, Anshu completely lost it and was totally depressed. I remember she cancelled our visit to he office's Christmas party and cried that evening. We went on to consult the doctor (Dr Bharat Kalra who was family physician in Toronto) who suggested some tests and few days later confirmed that there is nothing wrong with pregnancy. I called up and told Anshu and she was so so so much relieved to hear that.


Time passed and we could see your movements in ultrasound tests as well as in Anshu's belly.

Ved, the truth is that we wanted a baby girl (we thought it will be easier to raise a baby girl.. selfish us!!!..). In 5th or 6th month of pregnancy we found out that it is a boy. In Canada, doctors can tell the sex of baby if inquired whereas it is strictly banned in India and I must say that it really helps. So, Once we knew that it is a boy, we started shopping for boy items and also started looking for boy names. This was ritual for us each night to search internet looking for "unique" boy names. We finally selected a few names and did a poll amongst our friends to see which one is liked by most. I do not remember completely but I guess the names we had shortlisted were - Ved, Rehan, Trish, and one more.. We were pretty much decided on Ved.. but we still did the poll and most of the people liked Ved.. and so.. we named you VED.. (we did not want you to sit in first row so, we avoided names with letters A, B etc)

Last few months of pregnancy was a bit tough,We were expecting Papa and Ma (your grand parents) to be with us but due to a family emergency they could not come as planned. But, we still enjoyed it quite a lot seeing your movements, celebrating surprise baby shower from Anshu's friends

On 22nd July 2008, I took Anshu to the hospital in the morning and I had to see her go through the pain all day till you arrived in evening. I wonder how a woman can go through this pain more than once in her life. Epidural definitely helped to reduce Anshu's pain but its effect did not last long. Finally the doctors had to use suction pump to pull you out.

I must say that we (specially Anshu) were brave enough to have gone through this whole phase on our own. We also had good support from Anshu's friends (Shikha and Dhriti)
